ARCHITECTURE — INTERIOR DESIGN

Ocean Living is a residential building located in Canidelo, Vila Nova de Gaia, in a developing urban area close to the sea. The project sought to integrate a large-scale volume into the surrounding landscape, combining construction efficiency, sustainability, and a light, contemporary architectural expression.

The building extends over five floors, comprising 33 residential units, ranging from one- to four-bedroom apartments, organised into four independent cores. The two semi-basement levels take advantage of the site's natural slope towards the ocean, accommodating parking facilities and a commercial and service space overlooking the beach.

Access to the apartments is provided by an elevated walkway running parallel to the building, with small bridges connecting the different residential cores. The façades, clad in white concrete mosaic tiles, introduce texture and rhythm, while continuous glass balustrades enhance the lightness of the balconies. On the lower levels, perforated concrete screens provide natural ventilation and shading, contributing to the building's energy efficiency.

Sustainability guided the main design and construction decisions, from thermal insulation to the optimisation of solar orientation and glazing. The balconies, particularly generous on the south-facing elevations, extend the interior living spaces and strengthen the connection between the apartments and the outdoors.

With a refined architectural language defined by white and light grey tones, Ocean Living establishes a close relationship with the coastal landscape, combining comfort, functionality, and environmental efficiency.
